Dilute Care
When it comes to the Dilutes (Blue or Isabella/Fawn), we take a different approach to care and feeding. Due to the possibility of Color Dilution Alopecia. The condition developes in some, but not all, with the dilution gene. There is a lot of information online on the subject, so do your research. Keep in mind that hair loss can be caused by other factors as well, don't automatically assume it is Color Dilution Alopecia just because your dog is a Dilute Color. Cushings Disease, Hypothyroidism and Allergies to name a few.
Waggin' Tails Miniature Dachshunds has some interesting information on Color Dilution Alopecia and Genitics ( I have not done enough research in canine genetics to know if this is fact or opinion, but it's interesting to say the least}
I have not seen the Color Dilution Alopecia in any of our Dilutes.
We feed our Dilutes a Raw Diet:
Raw Meat & Bones (Chicken, Beef, Pork, Turkey, Venison, etc...)
Raw Egg (shell included)
1 tsp Coconut oil
1 TBSP Yogurt (plain)
! TBSP Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
Liver 3x a week (a small quantity)
I also add Apple Cider Vinegar {ACV} Bragg's Brand to their water
Bathe:
We bathe our Dilutes with a Benzoyl Peroxide Shampoo, followed by a moisturizing conditioner, followed by an ACV Rinse (we do not rinse the ACV rinse off, we just towel dry.)
ACV Rinse: 2 TBSP of ACV to a Quart of warm water.
Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to have a lot of great benefits for dogs, just google benefits of apple cider vinegar and dogs. We use it for a number of things.
